List Building – Why Bother?
List building is one of the last business building activities that an Internet Newbie engages in. And yet it is one of the most if not the most important parts of any business.
The reason for this tardy response to list building is that many Internet Newbies have no real business experience. All they see in a business is money being made and they have no clue where the real money is.
Everyone experienced in Internet Marketing will tell you that the money is in the list. They tell the Newbie too -to no avail. They are intent on “making money” and see no point in doing something as apparently dull as “list building”.
Months and years can easily go by in what is almost a trance of frenetic and sadly pointless and ineffectual activity. Reality dawns slowly. Maybe pressure from their spouse forces them to “wise up” and maybe they are lucky enough to meet a friend who has succeeded in building a list.
It can seem almost like a conspiracy to keep the aspiring beginner in the dark. If you do a Google search on list building you will find many of the search results devoted to articles and websites on buildings and construction.
No joy there for the would be list builder.
After many failures and a few sales it begins to be clear that the best people to sell to are people who have bought from you before.
And the ability to send an email and get some sales gets more appealing than building website after website and getting meager results in so doing.
The emphasis has shifted from building websites to building a subscriber list and a new part of you online career beckons.
