Traffic exchanges are the perfect places to get new internet marketers with drive, ambition and a solid work ethic inside your sphere of influence.
That’s because traffic exchanges are magnets for marketers who are marketing home business opportunities or other programs related to making money online.
After all, where else can you get 1200 to 1500 visitors per day just by surfing a few hours after supper?
And many surfers surf for hours and hours on end because they don’t mind working hard to get the results they desperately want.
But they don’t get the results they want because survey after survey shows that most people using traffic exchanges are brand new marketers with less than 6 months of marketing experience.
That means they don’t yet know how to market themselves with proven advertising tactics and marketing strategies.
These surfers are untapped gold mines.
I am going to share with you the five keys to getting theses surfers on your list right here and now.
1. Give Away Something Surfers Desperately Want and Can Only Get From You. It really doesn’t matter whether you actually create a product from scratch or repackage existing material into a new product.
For example, when I first started using traffic exchanges I used a video that James Grandstaff’s Downline Secrets 2 elite members can use to promote List Joe, a downline for viral list builders. I didn’t even have to write the email series because List Joe has an email series in their affiliate toolbox.
Basically, all I did was create a squeeze page.
2. Sell Your Offer You need to present to make a clear and compelling case as to why somebody should subscribe to your list. Think of squeeze pages as mini sales letters where the surfer can either subscribe or go on to the next site.
All you need is a headline, a product shot, 3 to 5 bullet points, a call to action and optin form. The bullets and product shot are optional. You can also use pre headlines or sub headlines as well. In fact, my performing squeeze page consisted of two graphics
3. Use Exchange Specific Advertising. By this I mean much more than sticking the name of exchange or their logo on your squeeze page. I am talking about capturing the look and feel of the exchange with graphics. I use dolphins when I advertise on Traffic Splash, dragons on Dragon Surf, cute geckos on Easy Surf Exchange and boxers on I love Hits.
4. Use Testimonials The best testimonials to use are those from people that surfers look up to. I don’t want to get to far ahead of myself but I simply read testimonials from Soren Jordansen and Tony Tezak while advertising on one exchange and picked up more subscribers from that exchange than other comparable exchanges
5. Do whatever takes to cut through clutter and get surfers to pay attention to your page I know some people don’t like audio or video and they complain every chance they can get. However, the facts paint a different picture. My tracking clearly shows that pages with audio and video gets better results than pages without.
6. Testing and Tracking are Vital When you get right down to it, advertising your list really nothing more than a series of subscriber getting experiments. Does headline A get more subscribers than headline B? You need to test every aspect of process including bullet points, graphics, call to actions and colours
7. Use banner and text ads to drive traffic to your squeeze page The traffic you get from banner advertising is hands down the best traffic you will get from a traffic exchange. That’s because people who click on your banner ads are already pre-sold on subscribing to your list.
8. Not All Exchanges Are Equal Generally, you will want to use the exchanges bringing in the most new members into the industry because you want your offer to be one first offers new surfers see.
However, different exchanges can and do have drastically different types of active surfers. For example, some exchanges tend to attract surfers who are interested in promoting paid to read and paid to click programs because the owners have designed their exchanges to appeal to those people. Obviously those exchanges would be great places to build list of people interested in pay to click programs, wouldn’t they?
Anyway, you can find out how many members are joining the most popular traffic exchange by look at the Affiliate Funnel weekly traffic exchange rankings.

9. Use Start Pages The nice thing about using start pages is that every surfer sees your squeeze when they first start surfing. You can buy the first page or, sometimes, second or third page surfers see when using a particular traffic exchange. Sometimes you can buy start pages by the day but they are usually sold by the week.
I started using video on these pages because even though the video might not fully load the first time they see the page, they will see it that week.
10. Make Your Thank You Page Sell You have your subscriber’s complete and undivided attention immediately after they subscribed to your list.
Don’t Squander This Golden Opportunity
It’s the perfect time to recommend affiliate programs and offer additional bonuses to make sure they confirm their subscription.
There is more to building lists on traffic exchanges than what you have read here. I didn’t talk about setting up the initial email series because that is subject best dealt with separately.
However, applying these 10 principles will get your more subscribers if surfers want what you are advertising, and most importantly, you put them into action.
